Senior Advocates for Fire Education (SAFE)

The Senior Advocates for Fire Education (SAFE) program began in the spring of 2005. It was determined that the Toledo Fire Department, with the assistance of The American Red Cross and The Area Office On Aging of Northwestern Ohio, Inc., could utilize a number of senior citizen volunteers that would welcome the opportunity to serve their city and the department. They would be used to do jobs that firefighters had not traditionally been able to perform.
