Workers' Compensation & Safety

  • Every City employee will be empowered to consistently perform his/her job in a safe and healthful manner.
    We will be accountable for the safe and healthful operations of this City.
  • Each City employee will be held accountable for their safety and health performance. This requirement will be met by monitoring employee participating in required safety and health training and performance of the City's Best Practices.
  • We will commit the necessary resources to ensure our work place safety and health programs are fully operational and successful in protecting the health and safety of all our employees and the citizens of the City of Toledo.
  • We commit to using prevention as the primary means of conducting our safe and health programs for City employees. The elimination and control of safety and health hazards is given the highest priority in the way we do business.
  • We commit to measuring and reporting our safety and health performance on a periodic basis so that we can evaluate our progress and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • We commit to the continuous improvement of the City's safety and health program, and we will actively encourage (and seek) suggestions from all City employees regarding the betterment and advancement of our programs.

THE CITY OF TOLEDO HEALTH AND SAFETY PROGRAMS POLICY STATEMENT
It is the policy of THE CITY OF TOLEDO to provide a safe and healthful work place for all employees and ensure that resources are available so that all employees can perform their jobs in a safe, healthful and environmentally correct manner. Our guiding principles to execute, achieve, and measure performance in these areas of commitment will be referred to as The City's Best Practices.

It is the responsibility of all employees at each division to ensure a safe and healthful work place by identifying and eliminating recognizable hazards and providing the necessary skills and equipment to ensure proper job performance. The City is committed to providing effective employee education, training, communication, and appropriate resources to ensure that employees meet their assigned responsibilities.

The responsibility for adherence to The City's Best Practices rests with each employee, regardless of position, as well as the City as an employer.

Each employee is expected to express concerns, report hazardous conditions, including non-compliance situations, and voice suggestions in accordance with our system of individual and management accountability and the City's overall health and safety program.

ROLE AND FUNCTION OF WORKERS COMPENSATION/SAFETY WITHIN HUMAN RESOURCES

  • Monitor/evaluate/reduce/control the City's Workers' Compensation costs.
  • Implement/oversee the transitional work program.
  • Conduct safety audits.
  • Develop/administer safety programs .
  • Organize/manage the City's safety committee program.
  • Oversee the City's injury pay program.
