Transportation Division is responsible for traffic signal design, installation and maintenance; traffic sign design, manufacturing, maintenance and installation; pavement markings, special events, block parties, traffic maintenance-detours, lane closures, speed hump review, traffic counting program, and a residential disabled parking program.

Permanent Two-way Traffic Pattern - Madison Avenue between Erie and Michigan Streets
In a continuing effort to improve access to Downtown businesses, Madison Avenue will be converted from a one-way to a two-way traffic pattern, between Erie Street and Michigan Street, on Thursday, November 19, 2009. After this conversion is implemented, Madison Ave. will have a two-way traffic pattern between St. Clair Street and Woodruff Avenue.
Northbound Collingwood Boulevard - Delaware Avenue to Islington Street
Update as of 11/20/09: The closure has been extended until Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009.
To allow the Division of Sewer & Drainage Services to make an emergency sewer repair on Collingwood Boulevard, it has become necessary to close northbound Collingwood Blvd., between Delaware and Islington, starting Thursday morning, November 19, 2009. Southbound Collingwood will be maintained at all times during this construction activity. No detour will be established for this closure. It is expected that northbound Collingwood will be reopened to traffic by the end of the workday on Friday, November 20, 2009.
Northbound Cass Road - Glendale Avenue to Eastgate Road
Update as of 11/3/09: Northbound Cass Road closure and westbound curb lane closure on Glendale has been extended until Friday, November 20, 2009.
In conjunction with Monnette's Market Site Improvement Project, and to allow the contractor to perform roadway and sidewalk work, it will become necessary to close northbound Cass Road, between Glendale and Eastgate, starting at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2009. One-way traffic will be maintained on Cass Road, between Eastgate and Glendale, in the southbound direction during this construction period. In addition, the westbound right curb lane on Glendale Ave., between Eastgate and Cass, will be closed during construction. It is expected that Cass Road and Glendale Avenue will return to normal traffic operation by Friday, October 30, 2009.
Slater Street - Commonwealth Avenue to Overland Parkway
To allow the contractor to replace an 8” waterline along Slater Street and Overland Parkway, it will become necessary to set-up intermittent lane closures on Slater from Commonwealth to Overland Parkway starting Tuesday, October 6, 2009. Two-way traffic will be maintained at all times during the construction and flaggers will be utilized when necessary.
Weather permitting; the installation of the waterline will be completed by November 20, 2009. Additional information concerning the next construction phase involving road resurfacing will be released at a later date.
Auburn Avenue Bridge over Interstate 475
In conjunction with the re-opening of the Central Ave. Bridge on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at approximately 12:00 p.m. (noon), the Ohio Department of Transportation will close the Auburn Ave. Bridge (over I-475), between Central Ave. and South Cove Blvd. The Central Ave. Bridge and the Auburn Ave. Bridge will not be closed at the same time. A detour will be established for the closure of Auburn Ave. via Monroe to Upton to Central. It is expected that Auburn Ave. will be re-opened to traffic in July 2010 (10 months).
I-280 Trench Project (The Ohio Department of Transportation - ODOT)
Front and Summit Streets will be realigned to intersect with the Craig Bridge. Work includes filling the existing I-280 trench and reconnecting city streets in Toledo.
N. Erie Street, between Bush St. and Ash St., is open to two-way traffic. The temporary tie-in to Summit St. from the Craig Bridge is open. Sidewalks on the Craig Bridge are now closed to pedestrian traffic until fall 2009.
Through June 2009, Ontario Street and Michigan Street, between Buckeye St. and Ash St., will close for structure removal and roadway replacement. Detour: Buckeye St., Ash St., Erie St., Buffalo St.
On Thursday, January 29, 2009 through November 2010, westbound Front Street, between Dearborn Ave. and the ramp to northbound I-280, will be closed for bridge removal. Eastbound Front Street will be restriped to allow for single lane bidirectional traffic. Additionally, the ramp from Front St. to northbound Craig Bridge (SR 65) will be closed. Craig Bridge access: southbound I-280, Navarre Ave., northbound I-280.
Project is scheduled to be completed November 2010, weather permitting.
