Ottawa River CleanUp Announced

The City of Toledo and the rest of the Ottawa River Group members will be undertaking a $40 million dollar thorough cleanup of the river. The Group has applied for grant funds from the U.S. EPA to help pay for these associated cleanup costs. This $40 million dollar project will lead to many jobs, particular in the construction industry.

Mayor Carty Finkbeiner Responds to "Take Back Toledo" Effort

Mayor Carty Finkbeiner responded during a press conference to a newly announced effort titled "Take Back Toledo". The group behind the effort aims at recalling Mayor Finkbeiner during his last year in office. During the press conference the Mayor outlined economic development and other success stories from his third term as mayor and responded to the group effort.

Herzing College Opens a Campus in Toledo

Class will soon be in session at Toledo’s newest educational institution - Herzing College. This location marks the second Ohio campus of this national business college, which is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, and the Ohio Board of Career Colleges and Schools.

VM Systems Announcement

VM Systems has been working with the Department of Development in an effort to build a 2000 square foot addition to this manufacturing facility, which will be used to create architectural metals.

Toledo challenges the US Census Bureau

The City of Toledo joined by community organizations has challenged the US Census bureau regarding its population. After counting and crunching the numbers a special task force has determined that Toledo’s population currently stands at approximately 316,763 residents. This is an increase of 21,734 over the Census Bureau’s earlier estimate.

Announcement of a Joint Economic Development District (JEDD) between Toledo and Perrysberg Township

This announcement marks another important point in the regional cooperation of Northwest Ohio’s economy. One that will benefit the futures of the City of Toledo, Perrysburg Township, and FedEx for years to come. This JEDD agreement is a huge opportunity for both jurisdictions, as well as the workers at Fed Ex and Northwest Ohio’s economy.

HCR ManorCare Continues to Grow in Downtown Toledo

Last month, the City of Toledo and the Ohio Department of Development finalized two incentive packages to keep HCR ManorCare and its 700 jobs here in Toledo. In addition to retaining this important healthcare company in Toledo, it was estimated that these incentive packages would lead to the creation of more than 50 new jobs.
But HCR ManorCare continues to grow. During a press conference a deal was announced that woul create 86 additional new jobs—bringing the number of new jobs to 136.

Toledo Wins First Place in the America in Bloom Awards

Toledo has been designated a “Champion” city by the America in Bloom Awards.
America in Bloom is an independent, national organization devoted to community beautification and involvement via the use of flowers, plants, trees, and other environmental and lifestyle enhancements.
This year, Toledo took the top spot for cities with a population class of 100 – 300,000. Other Champion cities of our class in recent years have included Akron, Ohio and Naperville, Illinois.

Palmer Energy Co. Moves to Downtown Toledo

With financial assistance from the City of Toledo, Department of Development Palmer Energy Co. is relocating it's office and seven employees from West Toledo into a vacant space on the second floor of 241 N. Superior Street Downtown Toledo. This is the second small business to move into Downtown Toledo in one week.

New Medical Practice Welcomed to Downtown Toledo

At a press conference held Downtown Toledo Mayor Carty Finkbeiner welcomed EDM Health Services, a private practice overseen by Dr. Darrell Hall, to their new Downtown home. Dr. Hall's corporate offices and a medical facility will operate out of this new location (316 N. Michigan St.). Dr. Hall and his staff of 20 are well-regarded throughout the Toledo area for their exceptional patient care, including making house calls, arranging transportation for patients, and treating those who cannot afford health care.

City of Toledo Receives Foreclosure Grant
The Department of Housing and Urban Development has announced that Toledo will be allocated more than $12 million dollars for a Neighborhood Stabilization Program.This program is a $3.9 billion emergency fund, created as part of The Housing & Economic Recovery Act of 2008. In order to meet the obligations associated with this grant and for the money to be wisely spent, Mayor Carty Finkbeiner announced the creation of a Task Force. Members of this task force include representatives from the CDCs, Home Builders Association of Greater Toledo, Toledo Board of Realtors, LMHA, LISC, St. Vincent Hospital, National City Bank, representatives from the offices Marcy Kaptur and Sherrod Brown, and members of the Toledo Housing Policy Committee.
